For LGBT Pride Month 2019 the LGBT Foundation is launching “Pride in Ageing” to tackle the social isolation faced by LGBT+ people in the UK. To support this launch, Kent Community Foundation (KCF) would particularly like to hear from charities who are running projects for older LGBT+ communities in Kent and Medway.

KCF is delighted to be able to support innovative, untried work even where there may be an element of risk and for particularly strong projects, may also be able to consider funding over more than one year. KCF is particularly interested in supporting projects and services that will enhance the impact and sustainability of LGBT+ organisations.

KCF has funders interested in awarding grants to LGBT+ initiatives and they are very keen to support projects focusing on both older and younger members of the LGBT+ community. Additionally, a new fund opens today which particularly wants to focus on supporting projects working with older (65+) LGBT+ people and groups.

One project that KCF has supported is the South East Gender Initiative. (SEGI)

SEGI promotes and improves the health and wellbeing of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual / Transgender and Non-binary people and those questioning their gender identity or sexuality through support, education, training and information.

Earlier this year a £5,000 grant was awarded to SEGI funding various support groups including:

• A weekly trans and non-binary youth peer support group including a counselling service for young transgender people.

• A weekly drop-in service for trans and non-binary people of all ages and their families and friends.

• A monthly parent and carer support group for those with trans and non-binary, gender questioning, gender non-conforming children.

Previous grants to SEGI from KCF have totalled £7,500 and have had a positive impact on people’s lives.

KCF is keen to support projects working with older LGBT+ people and The Pargiter Trust Fund (opened on the website today) really wants to support over 65’s in underrepresented groups.
