The first National Grief Week, to raise awareness of all aspects of grief and loss, will be held between 2 – 8 December

Over the last eighteen years Kent Community Foundation has awarded grants to a range of initiatives supporting those living with grief in Kent and Medway and has more funding available for those voluntary organisations requiring financial help.

Josephine McCartney, Chief Executive, Kent Community Foundation, said “Kent Community Foundation has supported many voluntary organisations who offer help for those living with grief, but we are sure there will be some charities and voluntary organisations that may need help and have not yet applied or do not know about the help we can offer. During National Grief Awareness Week, we would urge any charities or community groups working within Kent and Medway, who need financial help, to contact us.”

Here are some of the organisations that Kent Community Foundation has supported;

Abigail’s Footsteps received £2,500 in November 2019 for therapeutic workshops (in collaboration with Holding On Letting Go) to offer children and families affected by stillbirth and neonatal death, the opportunity to meet those in a similar situation in a safe, supportive environment, experience creative ways of remembering and develop coping strategies and resilience for the future.

Earlier this year Slide Away successfully applied for a grant of £12,000 towards the staffing costs to provide a safe environment where bereaved children can tell their story, explore and express their feelings, recall and record their memories and receive help to move on with their lives and know that it is ok to have fun.

Last year Friends Together  was awarded £1,200 to provide twelve months online support for people in west Kent needing help after the death of a loved one and Compassionate Friends received a grant of £3,500 to support the costs of three support groups, run by bereaved parents, who are trained volunteers, for bereaved parents.
