Kent Community Foundation was deeply saddened by the passing of Michael Head, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and dedicated champion for good causes in Kent.

Michael, who died on September 30 after a short illness, set up The Crown Charitable Fund in 2006 and was a passionate advocate for children’s literacy and community causes local to him in Canterbury and Herne Bay. His Fund has now given away over £1 million to local causes.

Peter Williams, ex trustee of Kent Community Foundation and Michael’s friend noted "Very early on, he also saw the advantages of channelling his philanthropy through the Kent Community Foundation, and many charities, small and big, benefited hugely from his generosity”.

Not only was Michael a hugely generous funder, realising the value of regular unrestricted grants to small grassroots groups, he was very interested in the organisations he supported, dropping in to see how things were going, phoning with an encouraging word and constantly advocating for local charities wherever he went.

We will miss his kindness and enthusiasm and his brightly coloured ties!

Community chef Mike Spackman, Sheppey Matters

KCF's enthusiasm for what we are doing and hoping to do, coupled with helpful advice, gave us the confidence to take this daunting step which has paid off.

Liz Turner, Octopus Foundation

It's great having a foundation that empowers organisations and charities in our community to make real positive differences and changes!
